The east pond (where I've seen the most shorebirds) was being worked on heavily and was mainly a dirt pit. The west pond contained the usually Mallards, Canada Geese and 2 Ruddy Ducks. The pond walls yielded some Least Sands, Spotteds, and Killdeer. The workers there were as friendly and receptive as ever. They even told me that they were hurrying to get done by August for the birds. So hopefully in a few weeks there will be some good shorebird habitat. FYI, the Dickcissel here at Chino has been staying around singing his head off all day everday. Very similar to the Clay-colored Sparrow at Kinder. All dressed up and no mate to keep him company. Bobolinks arrived in the fields last week and were present everyday this week, in the fields and as flyovers. Forster's Terns have also moved into our section of the river.
