Hello All,
I shall stand corrected on the issue of Vespers in summertime
cornfields (i.e. when the corn is tall and green, not stubble). On Saturday
morning I was watching the Vespers on Oak Grove Rd, Caroline Co. As usual,
2 males were singing from the powerlines along the road. Then a 3rd Vesper
flew directly from the tall corn to the powerline close to the nearest
singing male. It only chipped at me and never sang. I assume this was a
female. Anyway, I had always thought they associated with the no-till
fields (the other side of the road), but maybe not exclusively.
Other finds in the area were 2 Yellow-Billed Cuckoos that acted like
they have been here all summer. I had only heard one call once before this
summer. A new arrival for the year was Bank Swallow right on schedule.

Good Birding,
Glen Lovelace III
