Highlights were 3 imm. LITTLE BLUE HERONS, together, at Kingman Lake (perhaps a recent high count for DC). Also at Kingman were: 2 GREAT EGRET 20 LEAST SANDPIPER 15 KILLDEER 4 SOLITARY SANDPIPER 3 LESSER YELLOWLEGS 4 GREATER YELLOWLEGS No sign of the Pecs or Semi Sands that Mike saw there yesterday. At Kenilworth Park I saw: 2 GREAT EGRET (flying upriver) 3+ GRASSHOPPER SPARROW (1 was still singing) 2 BLUE GROSBEAK No sign of the pair of BOBOLINK that I saw there last weekend (I was hoping they would stay to breed, though they were more likely early migrants (though the male was still in alt. plumage)). Also no sign of the BOBWHITES that Gail et al had heard there a few weeks ago. At Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens I saw: 2 SPOTTED SANDPIPER 6 KILLDEER 1 LEAST SANDPIPER 4 GREEN HERON 1 m. AMERICAN KESTREL (had not seen this bird around all summer, I wonder where he's coming from) No sign of the BANK SWALLOW I saw there last weekend (a swallow that's about as hard to find in DC as CLIFF is). Good birding.
