Date: Sun, 5 Aug 2001 19:25:59 -0400 Reply-To: Maryland Birds & Birding Sender: Maryland Birds & Birding From: John Hubbell Subject: DC / PG County, August 4-5 Highlights from weekend birding in DC and PG County: Saturday (8/4) - DC Peregrine Falcon - 1 (finally) seen at 6:45 a.m. on the railroad bridge south of the 14th street Metro bridge Little Blue Herons - 3 immatures still at Kingman Lake near RFK stadium (seen around 3pm near low tide) Forster's Terns - several seen from Hains Point and Anacostia Park Sunday (8/5) - PG County Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary: Northern Bobwhite - 1 heard behind the visitor center (around 8am) Hooded Warbler - 1 seen where the Yellow and Red trails meet Grasshopper sparrows - several perched on the fence in front of the visitor center (saw 2 and 3 at different times) Jug Bay Natural Area: Marsh Wren - 1 seen below the observation deck Terns - many, Forster's size and I thought I could make out 1 Forster's in winter plumage, but with only binoculars in hazy light, I should just leave them as Terns, sp.
