Monday: Banded with Jim Gruber at Chino Farms. Migrants included Alder Flys and Louisiana Waterthrush. Tuesday: Stopped by John Brown Rd and was treated to my county first Upland Sandpiper. Also some Pecs and Leasts around. Wednesday: Bryan Byrnes and I birded the coast starting at Bayside Campground at dawn. Migrants there included Yellows, Redstarts, a Prairie, a Blue-wing, a Dickcissel, Bobolinks, both Orioles, and a Hummer. Mark Hoffman and Stan Arnold were also present and Mark's trusty database printout informed us that the Dickcissel was record early by one day!! Worked our way down to Chincoteague stopping at Truitt's and Vaughn finding little except for one Mary Ann Todd. Chincoteague had few shorebirds, but Sandwich Terns were almost common. Nassawango still had some warblers: Parula, Ovenbird, Yellow-throated, and Black-and-white. Eagle's Nest CG: 4 Sandwich Terns!!! 0 Piping Plovers, 35 Semi Plovers, 15 Ruddy Turnstones, and 1 Bonaparte's Gull (basic adult). Skimmer Island: 1 Red Knot in the Ruddy/Sanderling flock. Cape Henlopen: 2 Brant Thursday: Our hedgerow in the grassland at Chino held some migrants. In 10 minutes I saw a Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Least Fly, and Blue-gray Gnatcatcher. I was then treated to a flyover Upland Sandpiper headed north. Later that morning, a nice Broadwing Hawk flew over headed west.
