A day late seems to be the best description of my birding efforts! John Brown Rd--(I know, it's Queen Annes's Co., but that's on the way for us western shore residents)--not much to see unless you are into gulls and killdeer, and some tree swallows. Ridgely sewage treatment--lots of heavy equipment, eau de sewage ponds and no birds, except a small flock of Canada geese. Pond on Kibler Rd, near 314--well, a little better, 4 Greater yellowlegs among the Rock doves and silent crows. Plummer Lane--no dickcissel. Lots of goldfinches and a male and female Blue grosbeak, barn swallows feeding young on the fly. After Plummer we went to end and turned right onto Boyce Mill Rd. About 100 yds on left was small pond in pasture. Shorebirds!!! Pectoral sandpipers, about 20 Lesser yellowlegs, 5 more arriving as we left Least sandpiper, 8 to 10 Solitary sandpiper, 1 Killdeer --didn't count, more than six, probably not more than 12 Also Brown headed cowbirds and starlings. Drove back roads to Tuckahoe State Park, then Adkins Arboretum without finding anything particularly exciting. At the state park we did see a male scarlet tanager looking very tattered with much yellow in his plumage. With bridge coupons about to expire, I will probably try the shore again before the week is over. If you know a good spot that has not been posted on Osprey, please let me know. Good birding, Linda Baker quiltbird@annapolis.net ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
