Some corrections to my posting of Aug. 20. Last Saturday was Aug. 18 not
the 19th. Likewise my "Aug. 20" reports were really for Aug. 19, a.k.a.
Sunday - Perhaps I was still reeling from the well-cooked cellophane
enveloping my Easton Denny's sausage from earlier that day. Continuing on,
my observations at Hurlock W.W.T.P. also need some tidying up. The Ruddy
Ducks favor the southeast impoundment. The much-celebrated scum, or algal
mat, or whatever it really is, is in fact at the northeast corner of the
southwest pond, where I assume it owes its presence to the prevailing
summer southwesterlies. The other reports, I would submit, are without
blemish. In my experience the two eastern ponds usually have the most
birds. Last year the Eared Grebe was in the southeast pond, where the 2
Black Terns were last Sunday. Does anyone know what species of turtles
live in that stuff? I've been assuming they are Painted Turtles but they
look a little big. Thank you for your forbearance. Best to all.-Harry
