I was doing a mid-winter count many years ago and we found a freshly dead red-phase one along Annapolis Rock Rd. (does that sound right?). We did have another on the Triadelphia CBC 2 years ago; a Saw-whet Owl found near Bowie Mill Rd. by Jim Green. I sent that bird in to NAS with the results from the rest of the count (with a note about it being dead). These are the only two I have encountered in over 30 years of birding.
