Despite the rather steamy weather, he had a good day highlighted by an adult female MOURNING WARBLER near the Nature Center. Other migrants included 8 Chestnut-sided, 6 Magnolia, 2 Blackburnian, 4 Black and White, 1 Black-throated Blue Warbler, 5 Redstarts, 3-4 Yellowthroats, 6 Northern Orioles, 2-3 Red-eyed Vireos and 4 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds. Bill Dobbins met him and reported a dull female CONNECTICUT WARBLER in the maintenance yard, while another birder had a Yellow-breasted Chat near the stable. No flycatchers were seen by Barry, but this is the best time for Olive-sided, one of which has already been reported from the maintenance yard this year. Barry said conditions are good with lots of berries ripening, birds feeding low, and the NPS has (finally) killed the Burdock in the Maintenance Yard that used to trap and kill hummers and other small migrants.
