California Birding MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit I may get to travel to S. CA (Costa Mesa, near Huntington Beach) in the 2nd week of October and am in need of some advice, having never been to this part of the country. I'll be there on business but plan to bird nearby coastal areas and, if time permits, take an extra day or so to travel inland through the foothill and montane areas, maybe to the desert and Salton Sea. I have a target list but don't really know what's reasonable to expect at that time of year. I would welcome any help with: 1. books & references (I know the ABA/Lane guide is a must) 2. a recommended travel route, assuming 1-2 days, with the most bang for the buck 3. specific hotspots for S.CA specialties 4. any hotlines or listserves to tap into for current info 5. any personal contacts who might be willing to share on-the-spot expertise with a visitor If anyone can help with any or all of the above I'd be eternally grateful. Please respond off-list. Thanks in advance.
