The reservoir is pretty well drained now. I walked north towards the largest pools of remaining water to where I could see and hear Killdeer. Among one group of Killdeer was a BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER (it was in almost the exact same spot that I found one here in late September of last year). I then pushed farther north to get a look at some of the other shorebirds that I could see from a distance. There were a couple of PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 2 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 2 SOLITARY SANDPIPER, 2 BAIRD's SANDPIPERS and 3 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS. As I walked towards the shorebirds, I was thrilled to have a CASPIAN TERN fishing the open water beside me. I saw at least 60 Wood Ducks at the Reservoir and a single GREEN-WINGED TEAL. An OSPREY was flying around calling too. There was also a single BAIRD's SANDPIPER at North Branch (Allegany County) at ~10 am this morning among some Semi and Least Sandpipers. There were 2 SOLITARY SANDPIPERS, and a LESSER YELLOWLEGS as well. There were also 2 BLUE-WINGED TEAL there. I will probably be there (with Ray Kiddy) tomorrow morning early if all goes well. If anyone is in the area and wants me to show them precisely where to look, show up and look for us or follow our footprints (it is quite muddy in the reservoir). J.B.
