Raptors have been slow early in the season, a few OSPREYS , a NORTHERN HARRIER and an adult BALD EAGLE this AM. Expect the flights will soon heat up and will send weekly reports on the raptor tallies. On 9/2 Sean McCandless, Parke John & company reported 14 species of warbler, including BLACK/WHITE, TENNESSEE, NASHVILLE, PARULA, CHESTNUT-SIEDED, BLACK-THROATED BLUE, MAGNILIA, BLACK-THROATED GREEN, BLUE-WINGED, BLACKBURNIAN, BAY-BREASTED, PRAIRIE, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT and REDSTART. Other passerines yesterday included ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK, PHILADELPHIA VIREO, RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH and CASPIAN TERN. This AM on 9/3, Sean, myself, husband, Denis Brennan and Rick Lee found fewer warblers, with 12 species, and some ~ numbers as follows: TENNESSEE-1 NASHVILLE-2 PARULA- 10 CHESTNUT-SIDED-1 BLACK-THROATED BLUE- 2 MAGNOLIA- 20+ BLACK-THROATED GREEN- 5 BLACK/WHITE-3 PRAIRIE-1 REDSTART- 30+ COMMON YELLOWTHROAT-2 CAPE MAY-1 Other passerines were present in good numbers, including: SCARLET TANAGER-2 RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH-6 VEERY- 20+ BALTIMORE 0RIOLE- 30+ ORCHARD ORIOLE- 4 RED-EYED VIREO- 40+ WARBLING VIREO-2 GREAT-CRESTED FLYCATCHER-4 WOODTHRUSH-2 ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK-1 EMPID FLYCATCHER- 6 GNATCATCHERS were EXTREMELY numerous. PILEATED were not sighted but heard calling in the woods.
