There were = 9-12 INDIGO BUNTINGS and 25 COMMON YELLOWTHROATS in the same area. = CHESTNUT-SIDED, PARULA, MAGNOLIA, REDSTART and WARBLING VIREO were also = present. Then I led a field trip (non MOS) at Bon Secours spiritual center. = The birds were very hard to see in the overcast humid conditions. The = group was comprised of brand new "birders" most without binoculars at = all. Thanks to some other Howard birders who pitched in to help (Ralph = C. with his scope) we were able to get some great looks at a = MOCKINGBIRD, RED-BELLIED, DOWNY and THRASHER. It is always a treat to = help new people see birds for the first time.=20 The "birders" in the group did see a few species- The highlights = being a cuckoo sp., PRAIRIE WARBLER and LINCOLN'S SPARROW. This looks = like a great start to "sparrowtime"!
