Warblers, Vireos and other Fall migrants are sure to be there. If the winds are right, the Hawk Watch should provide Broadwings, Sharpies, Coops, Red-tails, Kestrels and the possibility of many other raptors. Meeting Place: Elk Neck State Park, Turkey Point parking lot. Time: 8:00 am (half day). Suggested equipment: bug spray (for ticks), appropriate inclement weather cloth. Conveniences: trees and a remote Port-a-Potty at the Hawk Watch. Admission: None. Questions: call or email Richard Donham at 610-932-0634 or donham@udel.edu Turkey Point Directions: Assuming you know your way to the intersection of Rt. 40 and Rt. 272. At Rt. 40 and Rt. 272, take Rt. 272 south through the town of Northeast. Continue south past the Elk Neck State Park Headquarters, swimming area entrance, camping area entrance, and boating area entrance. Next you will pass through Chesapeake Isles and come to a dirt parking lot (It is about 12 miles from Rt. 40 to Turkey Point parking lot). This is our meeting place for birdwalks. To get to the Hawk Watch you park and walk around the gate and follow the trail through one field and in the center of the next field is our sign and picnic tables. This is our Hawk Watch (3/4 mile walk - one way). If you continue on the trail, the lighthouse is a few minutes further.
