I stopped into Hughes Hollow after birding Rock Creek Park for Warblers. I arrived there at about 10:30 and was told that a Red-headed woodpecker had been sighted in snags in the treeline that borders that last impoundment. I found 2 RHW and I believe I heard a third. To reach the birds, I turned right (west) immediately after the treeline at the last impoundment and I walked along the mowed path that borders the first weedy field. I walked west for about 100-150 yards and I heard the calls. In order to see the birds, you have to cross through the brush line back to the impoundment which isn't easy and the footing under the snags is very muddy.
