Date: Sat, 22 Sep 2001 16:42:32 -0700 Reply-To: Maryland Birds & Birding Sender: Maryland Birds & Birding From: Leslie Fisher Subject: Turkey Point Hawk Watch-9/22- RED-HEADED WOODPECKER/KINGLET MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hi All: A field trip of 18 birders to Turkey Point this AM had some good raptor activity, with Jason Johnson, U of Del Ornithology major, counting from 9 AM to 12 noon: SHARPIES- 67 COOPS- 4 RED-TAIL- 1 BROAD-WINGED- 3 BALD EAGLE- 2 KESTREL- 6 MERLIN- 2 ( one immature flew low over the clearing for a great look ) OSPREY- 5 TURKEY VULTURE- 7 ( resident ) unid. Buteo- 1 TOTAL: 98 Passerine migrants were slow, but good quality! RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS were active, with an adult pair flitting about the point, one perched for an outstanding view, bird of the day! RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS were in. Others found included a female SCARLET TANAGER and YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO.
