Schwarz" Subject: Shorebird Follies at Tridelphia After Bonnie's tempting post of yesterday, I decided to take my chances at Tridelphia this morning. The American Golden Plover remains at Greenbridge. I hit the Howard County "hotspots" first, starting at the crack of dawn at Pigtail. It was dull, Green and Great Blue Herons (2 each) and 7 Killdeer. Big Branch was even deader, 1 Great Blue, though I did hear a Rose-breasted Grosbeak "chink!" All the action was at Greenbridge, where I arrived at 7:45. The shorebird variety wasn't quite as rich as yesterday, but that was compensated for by waterfowl and Larids! The shorebirds stayed on the MontCo side, though they did fly a few times, and may have strayed into HowCo space, I couldn't follow them, let alone identify them at that distance in flight, especiall since my eye was glued to the scope. M indicates MontCo, H indicated HowCo. Greenbridge, Tridelphia Resevoir, 07:45-10:00 Double-crested Cormorant 1 M&H Great Blue Hernon 4-5 M&H American Widgeon 2, male and female, M&H Green-winged Teal 2-3, females, M&H Osprey 1, M&M American Golden Plover 1, M Killdeer, 10+, M&H Sanderling 2, M Semi-palmated Sandpiper 1, M Least Sandpiper, 1 M Pectoral Sandpiper 1, M Caspian Tern 1, M&H Forster's Tern, winter plumage, 1, M&H There was also a small flock of peepish critters, about half a dozen, I saw in flight, but they were too far out and my skill level far too basic to even hazard a guess. A scope is required to view most of these birds. Good Birding!
