Recently arriving winter birds were out in numbers this morning at the Rock Creek Park maintenance yard -- both kinglets, juncos, White-throated Sparrows, and Yellow-rumped Warblers -- which perhaps made a surprise appearance by a breathtakingly yellow male Hooded Warbler all the more exciting. A good number of Black-throated Blue Warblers (male and female) were also present along with a few other migrants: Black-throated Green, Magnolia, Chestnut-sided, American Redstart, Common Yellowthroat, Blue-headed Vireo, and Rose-breasted Grosbeak.
