McDonald" Subject: Last Ditch Cromwell Valley Thistle Plea MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit The Canada thistle flowers have mostly faded and withered now, but most of the seed is still contained within the heads. This is a final plea to Cromwell Valley birders to assist in the efforts to bag as much seed as possible to minimize the spread of this noxious weed to the park's neighbors and beyond. We are concerned primarily with the far eastern field on the north side of Minebank Run (the "Woodcock" field, the one with the rocks). The top half of the field has been fairly well cleared, but as one approaches the big sycamore in the center of the field, there are still masses of seed heads. For the next three days, it is not necessary to schlep your bagged thistle all the way back to the parking lot. Tie your bags shut as well as possible to keep the seed contained until it can be collected. It can be left by the bluebird nest box at the entrance to the field for pick-up by the park, which hopefully will happen on Monday. Thanks in advance to all who can help out.
