Highlight was a single Kestrel (#112 for the year) buzzing a Red-tailed Hawk about mid day while Gwen and I were planting mums. Other birds of note were: 18 Canada Geese 2 Turkey Vulture 8 Mourning Dove 2 Great-Horned Owls - predawn duetting. A week now. 4 Red-bellied Woodpecker 2 Downy Woodpecker 1 Hairy Woodpecker 1 Northern Flicker 1 Pileated Woodpecker 4 Chimney Swifts 4 Blue Jay 3 American Crows 6 Carolina Chickadee 8 Tufted Titmouse 4 White-breasted Nuthatch 2 Carolina Wren 2 Ruby-crowned Kinglet 6 Eastern Bluebirds 2 American Robin 1 Hermit Thrush - chuck, chuck calls 4 European Starlings Mockingbird singing in the distance 8 Cedar Waxwings - on the move 1 Pine Warblers - adult male 1 Blackpoll winter female 2 Grackles - scouts 12 Cardinals 1 Rufous-sided Towhee 4 Chipping Sparrow 10 House Finch 16 Goldfinch 1 Rock Dove flyover 9/30 - first of the year for the record. Rain today so no deck sit. We need the rain. Enjoy the birds.
