Date: Fri, 12 Oct 2001 08:53:56 -0400 Reply-To: Maryland Birds & Birding Sender: Maryland Birds & Birding From: Fred Shaffer Subject: Recent PG sightings After seeing the Peregrine Falcon chow down on the Ruddy Duck at Jug Bay over the weekend, much of this week has seemed anti-climatic. However, there have been some interesting birds: On Monday through Wednesday, I spotted a Marsh Wren at Schoolhouse Pond each morning in a small area of cattails and tall grasses hopping among the vegetation and occasionally popping up for a look around. I got great looks at this bird, including the white streaks on the back. A female Rose Breasted Grosbeak was also present on Monday. Wednesday at Lake Artemesia I got a look at a Lincoln's Sparrow in the scrubby, grassy vegetation around the lake. Despite the bird's best efforts to avoid me, I was able to note its thinly streaked, buffy breast, white, heavily spotted throat, tan "moustach" stripe, bordered by thin brown malar stripe. There was no central breast spot. Other birds included 4 or 5 Pied Billed Grebes, and many, many Geese.
