Date: Fri, 12 Oct 2001 13:55:14 -0400 Reply-To: Maryland Birds & Birding Sender: Maryland Birds & Birding From: Jim Felley Subject: Hains Point birds, 10/12 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit A long lunchtime walk around Hains Point produced the following: three feeding groups of warblers, each including Palm and Yellow-rumped (almost all Palm Warblers were white-breasted, I saw one yellow-breasted one); one group included a Ruby-crowned Kinglet and another group included 4 Eastern Bluebirds. At the Point, there were 3 Forster's Terns feeding. The highlight was a crisply plumaged Merlin (female or immature) which was playing a happy game of tag with a group of American Crows, at the Point. At least I think it was happy, no- one was getting hurt, and no-one was quitting, either. The crows were taking turns dog-fighting the Merlin, and both crows and falcon were expertly using the baldcypresses to screen their attacks.
