Which volume is the C-bird in - Thrushes? Had a beautiful look at an adult Red-tail over Goddard SFC today around noon. Lighting was just right with the deep-blue sky background. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Fred Pierce (DNRC)- fpierce@avialantic.com Mid-Atlantic Aviation on the Web - http://www.avialantic.com ** Mid Atlantic Air Museum WWII Weekend Airshow June 7-9 2002 and Planes, Trains, & Automobiles Transporation Show Sept. 21-22 2002 - www.maam.org ** *** World Airshow News - www.worldairshownews.com ** --------------------------------------------------------------------- -----Original Message----- From: Maryland Birds & Birding [mailto:MDOSPREY@HOME.EASE.LSOFT.COM]On Behalf Of Marcia Nelson Sent: Monday, October 15, 2001 2:08 PM To: MDOSPREY@HOME.EASE.LSOFT.COM Subject: [MDOSPREY] Catbirds In an October 6 memo, Fred Pierce asks, about Catbirds, "is there any in-depth writing on them?" So far I have seen no reply, but the question has raised my interest in the question of "in-depth" writing about birds. I have the good fortune to own the 26-volume series Life Histories of North American Birds, which is described in Ehrlich's Birder's Handbook on page 637, starting : "The basic foundation on which this, and all other compilations of the biology of North American birds rests, is the 26-volume series - - -" Since this series was written from 1919 to 1968, there are no recent statistics - much of the material is in the form of narrative essays. The volume which gives information about the catbird contains 30 pages of reports on this one species alone, and is enormously informative and fun - (I, too, love catbirds). I do not know what libraries may have this work or how many birders - - perhaps someone can suggest a source. marcia nelson accokeek, MD ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
