The sparrows were plentiful and we started off with a VESPER in the single tree in field #1. My first for this fall. The breakdown of other sparrows were LINCOLN'S 1 SWAMP 6 SAVANNAH 170 FIELD 19 CHIPPING 40 WHITE-CROWNS 7 SONGS 45 WHITE-THROATS 6 I hate to admit it but the bird of the morning was NOT a sparrow. We had the great luck of spotting a female DICKCISSEL perched in the multi flora in "the good field". My second sighting ever in the county. We also found our first HERMIT THRUSH in "the good woods".5 MEADOWLARKS in field #1. If you want to find out where "the good field" and "the good woods" are I will take the Saturday field trip to both spots (and yes -there are dead woods and dead fields!). Be advised the walking will be VERY DIFFICULT. No paths and uneven ground and tall vegetation. Many of the birds I count are flying away, quick glimpses and by "seet" and "chip" notes. With luck we may get some to perch for study. We will look at sparrows for 4 hours and not much else!
