A great turnout of birders and the birds didn't disappoint. In field #1 we found a nice group of sparrows. A GRASSHOPPER was an unexpected surprise. A VESPER flushed up into "the tree" and perched for great views through the scopes. SAVANNAHS were abundant with many perching on the goldenrod for close study. Winter plumage CHIPPING SPARROWS were zipping in the treetop. FIELD, SONG and SWAMPS in the foxtail and pigweed. In the "good woods" we found 3 HERMIT THRUSHES and a real prize**ORANGE CROWNED WARBLER** in the "little valley". The "good field" was also hopping with birds with a flock of WHITE-THROATS in the pokeweed and dead tearthumb. WHITE-CROWNS along the hedgerow and a couple PURPLE FINCHES perched and singing. A NORTHERN HARRIER was a fall first for many. 49 species total and a beautiful day to be out. ( my neighbor had 5 SISKINS this morning on his thistle feeder) Bonnie Ott Ellicott city,Howard County bonnie1163@home.com ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
