Had many hundreds of White-throats, a single immature White-crowned, many Chipping, a few Fields, many Swamps and Songs, and plenty of Towhees. To add spice to our morning, we had a female Indigo Bunting, a late Magnolia Warbler (leaf-bathing), a few Common Yellowthroats, many Yellow-rumps, Blue-headed Vireo, a really pretty, speckled immature Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Pileated Woodpeckers, many flickers, Eastern Phoebe, a few Gray Catbirds, Sharp-shinned Hawks, Red-shouldered Hawk, Rusty Blackbirds, and the highlight of the morning, 6 (3male/3female) PURPLE FINCHES. The finches were feeding in good light at just above eye level, on multiflora rose hips. We found 3 males and 2 females in one small tree/shrub, and later another female in a different area. The really nice thing was that not far away were a pair of feeding House Finches for comparison. What spectacular birding weather! Get out and enjoy it!
