The ducks are back on Duncan's Pond (but easily spooked and I didn't get numbers before they flew off). It was a banner day for Brown Creepers. Highlights were: American Widgeon -- at least 2 Wood Duck -- at least 6 Gadwall -- at least 6 Mallard -- at least 20 American Black Duck -- at least 20 Red-shouldered Hawk -- 1 Sharp-shinned Hawk -- 1 Red-bellied Woodpecker -- 6 Yellow-bellied Sapsucker -- 1 immature Downy Woodpecker -- 7 Hairy Woodpecker -- 5 Northern Flicker -- 10 Pileated Woodpecker -- 1 Eastern Bluebird -- 2 AMERICAN PIPIT -- 1 (beach flyover) White-breasted Nuthatch -- 2 BROWN CREEPER -- 5 Ruby-crowned Kinglet -- 3 Yellow-rumped Warbler -- >100 Western Palm Warbler -- 1 White-throated Sparrow -- 2 Dark-eyed Junco -- 6 Sparrows seen at the beach: Field Sparrow -- 3 Savannah Sparrow -- 2 Song Sparrow -- 4 SALT MARSH SHARP-TAILED SPARROW -- 2 Swamp Sparrow -- 1 Here in Dunkirk, I've been hearing a pair of Great Horned Owls almost every night since 10/1 and a RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH has been coming to my window feeder (allowing great photos) since 10/12.
