The habitat at both south and north ends looks good, lots of fruit etc. The big field on the west side of the south soccer field (the one labeled, on Layhill Rd. for "Intercounty Connector") is in great shape, lots of broomsedge and some nice grassy paths mowed through it for birders. We saw sparrows -- and some! ca. 150 Song, 4 FOX (first for us this year), 1 Savannah, ca. 20 Field, 8 Swamp, ca. 50 White-throats, ca. 15 Juncos, 2 Winter Wrens, 3 Hermit Thrushes (north side), and five PURPLE FINCHES (1 south side, 4 north side, feeding on fruit). Also one lingering Common Yellowthroat but the Palms seem to have moved on. A couple of Ruby-crowned Kinglets, lots of Goldfinches, Bluebirds and Robins rounded out the tally. Cheers, Gail Mackiernan and Barry Cooper Colesville, MD ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
