Many SONG SPARROWS (17) and a few SWAMP SPARROWS at the beach. YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS were so numerous I can't begin to estimate their numbers. A COOPER'S HAWK was doing it's best to catch some. A single BUFFLEHEAD was seen in the bay, the first of many, I'm sure. Two WINTER WRENS escorted me across the swamp boardwalk and DARK-EYED JUNCOS, SONG, FIELD, and WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS pecked along Duncan's Pond Trail. Duncan's Pond was a delight with a total of 346 ducks: 125 MALLARDS, 25 AMERICAN WIDGEONS, 88 AMERICAN BLACK DUCKS, 55 GREEN-WINGED TEALS, 2 PINTAILS AND 2 AMERICAN COOTS. I was surprised to see the 2 GREEN HERONS fly over the pond while I was counting the ducks. GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS were fairly numerous along the trails. One very fresh looking Painted Lady was nectaring on the tickseed in the swamp. Still waiting for the siskins to show up in Calvert County! The Red-breasted Nuthatch continues to visit my window feeder for sunflower chips. //////// Arlene Ripley | || Calvert County, MD | 0 || aripley@nestbox.com | || http://www.nestbox.com || ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
