He is not a birder, but noticed an unusual bird on the pavement. (He said it was "not a pigeon.") It appeared to be injured. He went back up to his building, found a legal assistant who found a box and they returned to the bird, managed to capture it, and contacted a bird rehabilitation organization. From the length of the bill, the legal assistant thought it might be a sandpiper. But the rehabilitation organization identified it as an immature WOODCOCK. As of 4:00 p.m. yesterday, the bird was alive and the prognosis is promising.
