Barry went up to Layhill Park again today and tallied a fair number of sparrows -- 5 Fox, 5 Swamp, 35 Chipping, 75 Song, ca. 35 White-throated (but NO White-crowns yet). Also, 2 Purple Finches, 2 yellow Palm Warblers, ca. 120 Goldfinches, 1 Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, 2 Cooper's Hawks, and lots of Bluebirds. The Common Yellowthrpoats seem to have moved on. Our yard had 1-2 Pine Siskins very early (heard only), a Red-breasted Nuthatch has been busy all day stashing sunflower seeds into the bark of our locust trees, our first sizable flock of Juncos (ca. 15), a Winter Wren in the wood pile, Ruby-crowns in the apple trees, and 4 species of woodpecker at the suet (Flicker, Hairy, Downy and Red-bellied). Cheers, Gail Mackiernan and Barry Cooper Colesville, MD ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
