A Slate-colored Junco with prominent white wingbars on the primary coverts
and fainter, broken wingbars on the greater coverts was at our feeder this
morning. It was in a flock of 20+ more conventionally-plumaged Juncos.
This varient is illustrated in both Sibley and in Jim Rising's Sparrow
book, and is (unfortunately) NOT a White-winged Junco from the west. Other
than the wingbars it was indistinguishable from the other male
Slate-colored Juncos.

We still have the busy Red-breasted Nuthatch, still stashing sunflower
seeds in the bark of all the trees in the yard. Hopefully it plans to
spend the winter (we have lots of pines). Unfortunately the Siskins have
apparently moved on, however a couple of Chipping Sparrows have taken
their place.
