BTW, if you have made a trip to see it (whether successful or not), I would really be grateful to have that information. I've been tracking the gull's pattern of presence/absence for lo these 2+ years now, and all such info is very important. Thanks--Jane Kostenko jane_kostenko@co.saint-marys.md.us California, MD DC: about 1.5 hours from the Mall Take Route 5 off the Beltway south toward Waldorf. Roughly twelve miles and before Waldorf, turn left on Route 381 for Brandywine. Follow this good country road until it terminates at Route 231 at a "T" in Patuxent "City". Turn right on 231 for two miles until it rejoins Route 5 at Hughsville. Then turn left (south) on Rt. 5. When Rt. 5 turns to the right, stay straight on Rt. 235 then turn left on Rt. 472 which is Sandgates Rd. Drive for about 2 miles until you see 2 crabhouses on the left. Park at the Sea Breeze and scan the pilings behind the restaurant. The bird sometimes flies to the left to the piers beyond the Sandgates Restaurant. Baltimore: about 2 hours from 695 Take I-97 south and exit onto Rt. 3 (not Business Route 3). Rt. 3 becomes 301 at Rt. 50. Stay on 301 (straight) then exit onto Rt. 4 south at Upper Marlboro. Take Rt. 4 south where it merges with Rt. 2 from Annapolis. Stay straight south on dual 2/4 to Solomons. Cross the bridge on Rt. 4 into St. Mary's county. At the intersection of Rts. 4 and 235, turn right (north) and proceed for about 8 miles. It's almost exactly one mile past the Hillville Amoco station before you turn right onto South Sandgates Rd. Go about 2 miles until you get to the river. The Sea Breeze Restaurant is on the right. NY/NJ: about 5 hours from Jamaica Bay Take 301 south through Delaware and Maryland. Continue on Rt. 50/301 west/south across the Bay Bridge. Take Rt. 2 south off of 50. Turn left (south) onto Rt. 4. Follow the Baltimore directions from Rt. 4 on. South: Take I-95 north to 301 near Carmel Church, VA. It should be exit 104. Take Rt. 301 north across the Potomac River Bridge into Maryland. After a few miles, turn right onto Rt. 234 to Leonardtown. Rt. 234 ends at Rt. 5. Turn right and go into Leonardtown. Turn left onto Rt. 245 to Hollywood. At the intersection of 245 and 235, turn left (north). Go about 4 miles. Look for the Amoco in Hillville then turn right after one mile onto S. Sandgates Rd. See DC directions for specifics about the Sandgates area. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Howard Lefkowitz" To: Sent: Thursday, November 08, 2001 9:27 PM Subject: [MDOSPREY] Kelp Gull Directions Can someone give me directions to the Kelp Gull from route 5.
