The computer was still at the old house in Baltimore so I have a limited time driving to balto from Jarrettsville. Sat, 11/10 Baltimore Bird Club trip at Horsehead Wetlands Center with 11 observers saw about 53 species. Cold and chilly wind, 40 to 50 degree. 5 Common Loon 4 Horned Grebe 1 Double-crested Cormorant 1 Great Blue heron 1 Snow Goose 2874 Canada Goose 75 Mallard 26 American Black Duck 1 Greater Scaup 122 Lesser Scaup 226 Bufflehead 1380 Ruddy Duck 2 Black Vulture 8 Turkey Vulture 2 Bald Eagle 1 Northern Harrier 1 Sharp-shinned Hawk 1 Red-shouldered Hawk 1 Red-tailed Hawk 12 Killdeer 3 Ring-billed Gull - possible more 7 Herring Gull 2 Great Black-backed Gull 1 Forster's Tern - possible, in distance 7 Mourning Dove 2 Red-bellied Woodpecker 2 Yelow-bellied Sapsucker 5 Northern Flicker 1 Horned Lark 2 Blue Jay 11 American Crow 10 Carolina Chickadee 1 Brown-headed Nuthatch - heard 1 Carolina Wren 17? White-throated Sparrow 47 "Slate-colored" Junco 164 Red-winged Blackbird 81 Common Grackle 9 Brown-headed Cowbird 5 Purple Finch 4 House Finch 6 American Goldfinch also 1 Red Admiral, 3 Clouded Sulfer, 1 Cabbage White and 6 Gray Squirrel Wye Conference Centers at Aspen Institute, saw about 20 species including 4 bluebirds, 5 meadowlarks and herd of 11 White-tailed Deer. Wye Island NRMA = 32 species, 3 Ring-necked Pheasants (male in tall weed next to Woods Trail and a pair in field about 10 feet from road on left, 1/4 mile pass Holly Tree Trail, took pictures of the male), 1 Wild Turkey and 1 Bobwhite near Holly Tree Trail on right, 12 bluebirds, 4 waxwings, 1 imm. White-crowned Sparrow with numberous of White-throated Sparrows at Ferry Point trail area and 2 Foxes (took pictures) Rt 331 marsh on right pass Dover Bridge on Dover Bridge Rd in Caroline Co. Sorry Steve, no loon or goldeneyes seen in Caroline Co. 52 Green-winged Teal, 1 female harrier.... 15 species at marsh area Hurlock WWTP = 3000+ geese, 20 Snow geese, 28 Tundra Swan, 8 mallard, 1 N. Pintail, 98 N. Shoveler, 641 Ruddy Duck with about 23 species. 1238 Canada Geese on field at end of Ennals Rd at Palmer Rd. Will keep Blackwater list short because I have a full list of everthing in Balckwater at different sites and on Rt 335, Rt 16, Bestpitch Rd and other farm county roads, way too long to post. Blackwater and other area 11/11/01 more than 10,000 Canada Geese scatters all over several sites, nearly 5000 Lesser Snow Geese including 930 Blue form, 1 Ross's Goose with 2561 L. Snow Goose on field at Rippling Rd off of Brannocks Neck Rd on left, no Greater White-fronted Goose anywhere, hundreds of green-winged teals, 500 Dunlin, several greater yellowlegs, 1 Brewer blackbird with 400 red-winged blackbird at 4200 block of Rt 335 on left, meadowlarks at Egypt Rd, 2 Pine Siskin at feeder with 11 goldfinch behind Visitor center, at least 8 Bald Eagles, 1 imm.
