Neat. But my mischievous mind has often wondered how the Secret Service would react if they saw a radio-tagged bird in the area. :-) A few months ago, there was a news report (posted on BIRDCHAT) about a radio-tagged stork that was "detained" in Burundi on spying charges. It was actually part of a South African migration study. Now, about those squirrels scampering around the Russian embassy grounds with little backpacks initialed NSA. Opps! Never mind. I didn't see that. But seriously, isn't the White House grounds part of the annual Christmas Bird Count or Spring Bird count? I seem to recall a newspaper article some time back about the death of a birder who conducted the counts for many years. Does anyone know if someone has taken over that task? It would be interesting to see how the bird diversity has been in that location given that it's a nice habitat in the middle of a migrant trap city that's along the Potomac. cheers, shireen -- Shireen Gonzaga Baltimore whimbrel@home.com ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
