The fog remained for a long time, not lifting really until after 9:30 at least. Not much in the way of waterfowl, a few Tundra Swans, some Ruddy Ducks, a handful of Wood Ducks in the swampy area near the boat ramp. I (along with Jeff and Elaine Metter) did have nice views of 4 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS feeding on top of and in trees near the beaver lodge. Also had a nice flyover male Northern Harrier in this same area. Had a male PURPLE FINCH feeding on rose hips on the trail down to this area. Other birds of interest included a Fox Sparrow flushed from the weedy area next to the parking lot near the bridge, along with a single Swamp Sparrow there, and 3 adult RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS (feeding on and stashing acorns) in the woods down by the water from parking lot #9, as per Denise Gibbs' directions in the Montgomery County Site Guide.
