Goldfinches (and maybe a siskin there too) at least 8 Savannah Sparrows in the no-mow area an adult Sharp-shinned Hawk 23 Killdeers flying up the Anacostia, landing in Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens In the aquatic gardens but seen/heard from K'worth Park:=20 3 Hooded Mergansers Wood Ducks 2 singing Marsh Wrens 1 calling Gray Catbird Around 4 pm Saturday afternoon, along the Anacostia River in DC 1050 (conservative) to 1350+ Laughing Gulls, of which 750-1000 were on one mudflat at low tide just north of Pennsylvania Avenue along with no more than 150 larger gulls. =20 2 Lesser Black-backed Gulls among a group of 100 mostly larger gulls opposite the anchored destroyer between South Capitol Street and the Southeast-Southwest Freeway Sunday morning Nov. 17, we watched the meteor shower from 5 to 6 am in Silver Spring. Two American Goldfinches called while flying overhead; we saw at least 2 meteors per minute on average, maybe 3 or more, including some which produced spectacular lingering trails. =20 Kenilworth Park was quiet and foggy from 8:40 until almost 10, at which time it became quiet and sunny. No larks, pipits, warblers, etc. 12 Killdeer flew overhead.
