In a 10-15 minute stroll up the Pine Grove Trail starting from Earl's Picnic Area, I saw 3 and heard at least 3 more. Other sightings at Little Bennett include: Hermit Thrush and Field Sparrow at Earl's Picnic Area; both vultures, Red-tailed Hawk, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Eastern Towhee, Field and Fox Sparrows on the Kingsley Trail. A quick stop at the Ten-mile Creek Road area of Black Hill Regional Park produced several Hooded Merganser in addition to the American Wigeon, Bufflehead, Tundra Swan, and Ring-Necked Ducks reported last week from this location. Along the trails, Golden-crowned Kinglet and more Fox Sparrows were seen. These areas are well-described and mapped on pp. 36-42 (Little Bennett) and pp. 46-52 (Black Hill) of the new Montgomery County Guide.
