Lake Artemesia in College Park was barely visible. Hearing but not seeing the Canada Geese was sort of surreal. Along the edges of the lake, I did see coots, Pied-billed Grebes, and Ruddy Ducks. Nothing unusual on the trail around the lake, but I did see a Brown Thrasher at the entrance to the lake. Bladensburg Waterfront Park was basically a bust between the fog and tide -- just a few gulls, many Song Sparrows, and a Fox Sparrow. At Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, the highlight was a very close Savannah Sparrow along the boardwalk. In addition, Fox Sparrows were at the end of the maintenance road just inside the gates; a Sharp-shinned Hawk trying to perch broke the limb instead and was nearly to the ground before righting itself; and 2 Hooded Merganser were diving near the end of the boardwalk. At Anacostia River Park, the tide was still too high for the gulls to congregate, but I enjoyed watching an American Kestrel hunt from various streetlight perches. Finally, on my regular walk from the Washington Sailing Marina up to Four Mile Run, I saw a pair of Canvasbacks in addition to the usual Ruddies, coots, Pied-billed Grebes, Black Ducks, and Mallards. I also saw 2 Bald Eagles -- 1 adult and 1 immature.
