Lookout (yes), 11/20/01 Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable I arrived at Pt. Lookout State Park at 4 pm. I=20 started walking south toward the point from the restrooms and found only a white-throat and a song sparrow near the smokehouse. After making my way north along the bayside of the trees, I ran into Stan Arnold who had just arrived. We starting the loop again spotting the same species in about the same spots. When we got back to the north end of the trees, a group of 5 sparrows flushed and one of them was larger than the rest. We got on the bird as it flew up into a tree near the barbecue grill. At one point the bird came out entirely=20 into the open and the setting sun backlit the pink bill. At that point the bird dropped down into the weeds and wouldn't come back out. The bird is a first winter bird based on the lack of extensive black on the bib and white chin. If you have Rising's Sparrows of US and Canada, it looks almost exactly like 47C. Hopefully the bird will stick around. People who would like to tick this bird may have a good shot at it in the morning as it was still there as the sun hit the horizon. Thanks Patty for a sweet St. Mary's bird!
