Saturday (Nov 17) was in Delaware: Bombay Hook, Cape Henlopen, Silver Lake, and Indian River Inlet. Sunday (Nov 18) we did EA Vaughn and Truitt's Landing, OC Inlet, West OC Pond, and Deal Island. Our best bird was a well-seen and heard Sedge Wren at Truitt's Landing. By sound there were probably 2 more there. We failed to find any Sharp-tailed Sparrows or LeConte's. We squeaked out a Short-eared Owl at Deal in the dark as we were leaving, as so often happens. But no Black-crowned Night-Herons there! A surprise was a Prairie Warbler at Bombay Hook. Also a little surprising were 2 Semipalmated Plovers at Port Mahon. Gannets were rather numerous and fairly close at OC Inlet. Surf Scoters were also fairly numerous at the coastal locations. Overall, though, our birding was kind of disappointing. Waterfowl numbers and variety seemed surprisingly low, e.g. no Wigeon anywhere, and Mergansers (Hooded) were ONLY at West OC Pond. However, the close-up Gw Teal and Pintails at Bombay Hook's Bear Swamp were great. We found no Harlequin or Purple Sandpipers at OC Inlet, probably because there were MANY boaters there. We got 109 species for the weekend. We also got a good look at the meteor shower near Assowoman in Del.
