Lookout this afternoon with hopes that my husband could see his life Harris's Sparrow. We arrived a little after 3 PM and were dismayed to find people walking all over the area where I had seen the bird on 11/20. Luckily most of them left and in no time we found the sparrow in the same little shrub clump just north of the restrooms. It cooperatively posed in the late afternoon sun in the bare branches of a small tree in the clump. A motorcycle approached which caused the bird to fly across the road to some shrubs and eventually to the ground. We walked back to the car, only to find the sparrow pecking at the ground directly under our front bumper! We had parked just south of the little sandy trail and "Park Closed at Sunset" sign on the west side of the road. We got some really great photos this time as well as more video. I've replaced the distant video grabs I got on Tuesday with much better digital photos. They can be viewed at: http://nestbox.com/harris.htm. Don't know which was better -- the sparrow or the turkey dinner!
