Here are some sightings made at Little Seneca Lake, Black Hill Regional
Park, Montgomery Co., MD, on Friday afternoon, November 23:

3 PIED-BILLED GREBE
8 RING-NECKED DUCK
20+ BUFFLEHEAD
CA. 20 RUDDY DUCK
6 AMERICAN COOT

and that's just about if for the waterfowl. Very slow this year so far.

In the Ten-mile Creek area of the park, I had all the local woodpeckers
except for Y-B Sapsucker. As the locals know, this park is a great place
for RED-HEADED WOODPECKER (1 heard only), which can be found in several
places within the park. There was also a male PURPLE FINCH in the 10-Mile
Creek area and 2 FOX SPARROWS along the road past the public boat ramp in
the north of the park.

Today, Saturday, November 24, Kenilworth Park in NE DC had:

1 PALM WARBLER (western form)
numerous SAVANNAH SPARROWS
1 FOX SPARROW

Later this morning, John Hubbell and I searched the gulls along the
Anacostia River from the Benning Rd. bridge down through Anacostia Park,
but failed to find any Lesser Black-backed. The 4 familiar local species
were well represented, with a substantial number of LAUGHING GULLS at one
of the loafing areas.
Apart from a few Mallards, only ducks we saw on the Anacostia River were 4
RUDDY DUCK over by the Navy Yard. The "Anacostia Wetlands" (now thoroughly
dried out) had lots of SONG SPARROWS, along with WHITE-THROATED and FIELD
SPARROWS.

John and I moved on to Hains Point, where we got two groups of HORNED
GREBE, one group of 5 over toward the airport and a group of 16 very close
to the railing along the exit road in the northwest part of Hains Point,
together with 4 BUFFLEHEAD.
(A few BUFFLEHEAD and HORNED GREBE were also to be seen on the Tidal Basin
this morning.)

John moved on to the mouth of 4-Mile Run south of National Airport, and I'm
sure he'll post a report here if he saw anything of note.

I stopped by Georgetown Reservoir (D.C.) on the way home. Apart from the
usual 3 gull species, only birds of note were 2 PIED-BILLED GREBE and 68
RING-NECKED DUCK.
