Balestri" Subject: Long-tailed Duck at Black Hill Reservoir, Montgomery County Mime-version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-transfer-encoding: 7bit I stopped by the lake on the way back from Bethesda today (about 3:00PM) and scoped the lake from the main bridge and the boat ramp the first one off to the right as you enter the park). I saw the Long-tailed Duck from the bridge among Canada Geese and Buffleheads in the middle of the lake. It was a bit foggy so the visibility was poor, but it appeared to be an adult in winter plumage. From the boat ramp, I spotted a female Common Goldeneye, also among some Buffleheads. Other sightings included Gadwall, American Wigeon, Mallards, Ring-necked Ducks, Hooded Mergansers, Ruddy Duck, American Coots, Red-tailed Hawk, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Belted Kingfisher, Carolina Chickadee. I was only there about 30 minutes (places to go, people to see, you know!), so I didn't really walk around much. -- Marcia E.
