It is simply not that good. (I gave mine to Birder's Exchange). However, the 22X WA is quite good. The Nikon is definitely a better scope, and also sturdy -- and more expensive. I guess it depends on how and where the scope will be used -- and how serious the "beginner" is. If the person is really serious, then a slightly larger investment may be warrented. Having said that, I definitely plan to keep my old Spacemaster!
