While we were watching the egret yesterday afternoon, it flew about 30 feet to try a spot near an island, which was evidently too close to where the heron was fishing out of sight behind the brush. The heron flew straight at the egret, "skronking" loudly. The egret promptly took off and flew to another island, leaving the heron standing haughtily in its place.
