Despite intermittent rain the Carroll County Bird Club had a = successful trip to Queen Anne's County today (12/8/01). The highlights = were sightings of Gannets. The first was seen while we crossed the Bay = Bridge. It was on the south side. The others (about 8) were seen from = Kent Point and appeared to be heading up the bay. Most waterfowl were = as expected but no Buffleheads, Goldeneye, or scoters. Land birding was = slim with a few Fox Sparrows at Horsehead Wetlands Center topping that = part of the list. Only impressive numbers were 1500 Ruddy Ducks at Horsehead, 65 = Pintail on the Starr Road pond, thousands of Ring-billed Gulls in the = fields, and hundreds of vultures flushed from a roost by hunters at = Starr.
