I guess I'll have to add it to my daily checklist of yard-bird regulars along with cardinals, titmice, crows, etc.(!) At about 4:15 p.m. today the owl, which had been sitting motionless, suddenly jerked its head sharply to the left and peered intently upwards. Following its gaze, I saw a Cooper's hawk perched high in a neighbor's tree. Screech owl as "spotter" owl, you might say.
