My husband, my daughter, and I went last weekend, and they are simply delightful! They do their U-shaped swooping flight (buzzing the forest of tripods and people), they fence with their bills, they perch on the "Purple Majesty" salvia four feet away from their admirers. The birds are present all day long. Today is the beginning of Manhattan's CBC count period, so they will be an exotic addition! Several hummingbird feeders have been hung in the area, because we all know that the warm weather that has kept salvia blooming into December here can't last. Fort Tryon Park is only about a mile north of the George Washington Bridge, and can be accessed from the Henry Hudson Parkway northbound. Please note that there is no corresponding entrance southbound to go back to the bridge, but MapQuest can help you find a way. There are two New York counterparts to this list, NYSBIRDS-L and eBirds NYC. eBirds NYC has been more active with daily updates. (Naturally, because I want to quote an update, I haven't received one posted yesterday!) I don't know of any archive, but you can find info on how to subscribe here: http://www.users.nac.net/benc/. NYSBIRDS-L is archived at: http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/NYSB.html. If anyone needs further info you can contact me directly! S.
