Sorry about the empty previous post. My fingers were hasty on the keyboard... I got to observe Ohio's first BROWN-HEADED NUTHATCH near Cleveland last week. Geesh. I've now seen as many BHNU in Ohio as I have in Calvert County. Wow. What a surprise! It very much brought back fond memories of birding in Maryland. And...there was warm weather to boot. Birding in Ohio has is pluses and minuses. I miss the Ocean. And no Worcester County either. We do have Lake Erie and a few Western oddities at times. Here's a few of my highlights from Ohio (actually a county somewhere close to Garrett, I think) this year: Townsend's Solitaire Varied Thrush Harris' Sparrow Ruff White-faced Ibis Sabine's Gull Vermilion Flycatcher Brown-headed Nuthatch Tricolored Heron (definitely not a gimme in Ohio!) selasphorus sp. (Rufous/Allen's Hummingbird) Wish I had time and energy for the O.C. count. ;-) I should finish up my induction phase of chemo by the mid to late January.
